Recruiting process in the IT industry – we want to make it a piece of cake

Getting your first job in the IT industry can be tricky. Employers may have ridiculous expectations or confusing job ads. Sometimes it takes way too long to fill the application, and it might still be unclear whether it was enough. And if it was, you might face a long, unrewarding process including multiple interviews and tasks. We’ve all been there, and we at Trivore believe that job seeking shouldn’t be like this.

Trivore is a twentysomething IT company from Turku, and as our numbers have grown quickly in recent years, we have wanted to make the recruiting process as pleasant as possible for not only us, but even more for the applicants. Here’s how we’ve done it.

1. It’s not just about what we want from you, it is what you want from us

It is easy to list qualities and attributes of an ideal future employee. But it is not very sustainable to ask for everything. We don’t want to tell you that you must be an absolute unicorn to work with us – we are all regular people who just want to work in a regular workplace.

Instead, we aim to tell you exactly what qualities are necessary for the job, and then what attributes and skills are a nice bonus. This way you can easily see, how suitable you are for the position – and how suitable we are for you, since we also tell you what we offer for you in this position.

2. No more long letters, it’s time for checkboxes!

Writing is a nice skill to have. However, writing long letters about yourself might not be the best implication on how well you can write kick-ass code, operate in IT infrastructure, or manage a software project. This is why we rarely ask this from you – and if we do ask this, then it is an important skill for the position you are applying for. Instead, we’ve opted for the quick and easy method including a simple application form with mostly multiple-choice questions.

3. Less stress, more compatibility

Okay, you have applied for the job and we are interested in you: we’ve come to the point of the interview. We don’t want to create unnecessary stress, which is why we prefer to keep the interview more as a casual conversation. We make sure that you’ll meet people who you would actually work with, if you were chosen. This way you don’t have to rely only on what is written on the job ad: you get a chance to ask your own questions about us, your future team, and the position.

We also don’t believe in unnecessary tests and preliminary assignments. Yes, for some positions these are good and necessary, and then we do utilise them. When they are not needed in determining whether you would be a good fit for our team, we skip them.

Recruiting is just the first step

When the recruiting process is finished and you have become a part of our team, we move to the next step: how to ensure that you are as happy as possible with us.

These five points have been the key:

1. Work in our well-equipped offices or from home

Our offices are in Turku and Seinäjoki. Considering how popular remote working is nowadays, Trivoreans seem to really enjoy spending time at the offices. And no wonder – we do our best to offer nice little things at the office, including some exercise equipment, snacks, books, and puzzles. But we don’t want to limit you to the Turku and Seinäjoki offices, so we have flexible remote work practises. Some Trivoreans work fully remote from other cities. This way you can choose the best place for you to work, as long as it is a secure and peaceful environment.

2. Interesting, meaningful, and varied projects

We design and develop our own software products for wonderful customers. This ensures that we can offer truly meaningful and varying projects, be it frontend development, backend development, system engineering, project management, or tech support.

3. Extensive employee and health benefits

Our employee benefits help you to enjoy delicious lunches, relax with a massage, exercise, and experience culture. Our occupational healthcare service provider specializes in the well-being of information workers, ensuring that Trivoreans get the best care possible.

4. Opportunity for continuous learning and training

Trivoreans can spend two hours a week for learning new skills for their work. To support this, Trivore offers LinkedIn Learning for all Trivoreans. The platform is also available in your free time, so learning doesn’t have to be limited to courses in your own field!

5. Great and supportive colleagues

We want everyone to feel like they can join our work community just as they are. We have people with a great variety of backgrounds, and there is no pressure to pretend to be something you are not. Your team will always have your back and support you in even the most difficult tasks. We also have fun together in our teams: there are always some nice events coming up.
