At the end of October, we launched the Trivore Savings Calculator – a tool that helps organisations see how much they could save by modernising their identity and access management (IAM).
Within its first week, more than 125 people had already tried it, and the results were clear: most organisations can save hundreds of euros per employee each year through IAM, with payback measured in months rather than years.
Now, we are publishing the white paper “IAM as a Strategic Investment: Real Savings and Lasting Value”, which brings together research findings, ROI scenarios, and real-world experience on the business impact of IAM.
Value Backed by Evidence
The white paper shows how IAM affects daily operations in measurable ways. The costs of manual identity management add up quickly: IT teams spend time creating and deleting accounts, employees wait for access to systems, and companies continue to pay for unused licences.
Modern IAM eliminates these bottlenecks through automation and centralised control. According to both the calculator and the white paper, IAM can deliver measurable benefits across six key areas:
- faster onboarding
- fewer help-desk requests
- optimised software-licence use
- smoother login processes
- automated access requests and approvals
- better control over external users
The results point to real, quantifiable savings.
Research Findings and Scenarios
The white paper draws on independent research and industry data, combining the latest insights into how IAM strengthens both security and operational efficiency.
- A 2025 study in the World Journal of Advanced Research and Reviewsreports that advanced IAM systems help detect and contain breaches an average of 52 days faster, saving around USD 1.3 million per incident.
- Forrester found that mature IAM programmes deliver clear efficiency gains – higher end-user productivity, fewer audit findings, and reduced technology redundancy.
- IBM’s Cost of a Data Breach Report confirms that misuse of credentials remains the most common cause of data breaches – and that IAM maturity plays a central role in limiting their financial impact.
Based on these findings and Trivore’s own customer experience, the white paper presents savings and ROI scenarios for organisations of different sizes. A typical three-year return on investment ranges from 150 to 250 procent, with full payback often achieved in 12 to 18 months, sometimes even sooner.
IAM – More Than Security
IAM is not just a safeguard against technical threats or a compliance requirement. It is an investment that improves efficiency, enhances user experience, and frees up valuable resources. Nordic organisations that have modernised their IAM solutions report the same outcomes: greater efficiency, lower costs, and improved security – all at once.
