Identity Management 2025: competitive advantage with modern Trivore eIAM

As the pace of digitalisation accelerates, the importance of identity management grows. Whereas just a few years ago IAM (Identity and Access Management) was mainly seen as a tool for the IT department of large companies, it is now becoming one of the key success factors for all businesses. IAM is no longer just a luxury tool for large enterprises – it is the key to success for all organisations.

Identity management in transition

The environment in which today’s organisations operate is radically different from five years ago: hybrid working is well established, cloud computing is on the rise, and organisational boundaries are increasingly blurred. At the same time, regulations such as the NIS2 Directive and GDPR are imposing strict requirements on data security and the processing of personal data.

“Traditional IAM solutions no longer meet today’s needs,” says Kari Mattsson, CTO at Trivore. “We need a system that not only manages access rights, but acts as a strategic tool for digital business development.”

Organisations with a large number of external partners, subcontractors or temporary staff are particularly challenged. Managing these identities and access rights with traditional tools is difficult and time-consuming – and sometimes virtually impossible.

Automation frees up resources for strategic work

One of the most significant changes in identity management is the shift from reactive to proactive automation. Trivore eIAM’s event-driven architecture helps transform traditional manual access management into an automated process that saves administrators’ time and improves work efficiency.

In practice, this means that when an employee starts, changes role, or terminates their employment, the system automatically orchestrates all the necessary changes in the different systems. No more manual password creation, no more forgotten access rights, no more security risks.

“Thanks to Trivore eIAM, time savings of up to 90% can be achieved in access management,” says Mattsson. “But even more importantly, eIAM frees up IT departments’ time for more strategic work.”

Automation also extends to the lifecycle management of access rights. For example, the system recognises fixed-term contracts and projects, and automatically manages access rights accordingly. When a project worker moves to a new project, their access rights are automatically updated to reflect the new role, and the rights from the old role are also removed. Trivore eIAM therefore always keeps the rights up-to-date and correct.

Integrations are the key to success

The IT environment of a modern organisation is a complex whole, with dozens or even hundreds of different systems. Trivore eIAM acts as a hub for these systems, ensuring seamless information flow and access management.

The system integrates seamlessly with HR systems, ERP and cloud services. Particularly noteworthy is the Microsoft 365 integration, which automates licence management and delivers significant cost savings.

Of particular importance for public administration organisations is the comprehensive Suomi.fi integration of Trivore eIAM. It enables the use of both Suomi.fi authentication and credentials, which significantly facilitates the digitalisation of citizen services. This has proved to be particularly useful in situations where strong authentication or verification of guardians’ credentials is required.

Get your licences handled – and your costs under control

A large proportion of organisations now use Microsoft 365 tools, and licensing costs can be significant. In many organisations, licence management is a manual and time-consuming task, which can easily lead to a situation where there are either too many or too few licences.

“Effective licence management can save large organisations tens of thousands of euros a year,” Mattsson points out. “By automatically updating access rights and licences when staff changes, unnecessary costs are avoided.”

A typical problem is that when an employee leaves the organisation, their Microsoft licences remain valid. Trivore eIAM automates the whole process: when an employee leaves, the system automatically releases the licences for re-use or, if necessary, terminates them.

“Research shows that companies could save an average of almost 15% of their Microsoft 365 costs simply by managing their unused licences better,” says Mattsson. “By automatically updating permissions and licences when staff changes, unnecessary costs are avoided. For large organisations, this can mean annual savings of tens of thousands of euros.”

Regulations: managing GDPR, NIS2, and PSD2

The regulatory environment is becoming increasingly complex, and organisations need effective tools to meet stringent requirements. IAM is a key part of ensuring regulatory compliance.

For GDPR, IAM helps to manage personal data and ensure that access is limited to those who have the right to access it. Automated audit reports make it easier to prove compliance.

The NIS2 Directive obliges organisations to improve their security practices. Trivore eIAM’s Zero Trust architecture and IAM process automation directly address these requirements. In the financial sector, the PSD2 regulation requires strong customer authentication (SCA), which Trivore eIAM helps to implement.

Usability and cost-effectiveness go hand in hand

The effectiveness of identity management depends not only on the technical features, but also on how easy it is to use. Trivore eIAM is designed with both end-users and administrators in mind.

“When designing the user interface, we have paid particular attention to ensuring that common functions are easily accessible and logically organised,” explains Mattsson. “A very high level of user satisfaction can be achieved.”

Ease of use is also reflected in the cost. When the system is intuitive and automation takes care of routine tasks, the need for training and support is significantly reduced. Savings of up to 60% in management costs are possible.

Versatility: in the cloud, hybrid, or in the data centre

Trivore eIAM is designed to meet the needs of different organisations. It works efficiently in the cloud, in a hybrid model, or in the customer’s own data centre. This flexibility means that the solution can be adapted to an organisation’s regulatory requirements and infrastructure.

In the cloud, Trivore eIAM offers fast deployment and easy scalability. The hybrid model combines the flexibility of the cloud with tight control of data centres, and when installed locally, the system provides maximum control for organisations, such as public administrations.

And while there has been talk of the demise of the data centres for a long time, the rumours are premature. Many organisations still need on-premise solutions for either security or cost reasons, and Trivore eIAM seamlessly supports them too.

Zero Trust practice

Zero Trust architecture is no longer just a trendy term, but a necessity in the modern security environment. Trivore eIAM helps to implement Zero Trust principles in a practical and effective way.

“For us, Zero Trust means that each access request is validated individually,” explains Mattsson. “The system constantly verifies that the user has access to a particular resource at that particular moment.”

This approach has proven to be effective: security breaches can be reduced by up to 80% with Trivore eIAM.

Carrier-grade reliability

Identity management is a mission-critical system that must operate 24/7. Trivore is used to developing and delivering carrier grade solutions and eIAM is designed to meet the highest availability requirements.

“We are the only player in the market to offer five-nines (99.999%) availability for identity management,” says Mattsson. “In practice, this means only a few minutes of unplanned downtime per year.”

Reliability is based on modern microservice architecture and full duplication or even replication of components. All development work is done in Finland, which enables a fast response to customer needs. In addition, all data remains in Finland.

Looking ahead to 2025

Identity management is constantly evolving, and Trivore’s goal is to stay at the forefront of this evolution. The integration of AI and machine learning will bring new opportunities for automation and anomaly detection.

“We see that in 2025, identity management will no longer be just a support function, but a key part of an organisation’s digital strategy,” Mattsson says. “At Trivore, we are ready for this change.”

Organisations that understand the strategic importance of identity management and invest in it early will gain a significant competitive advantage. They will be able to operate more agilely, securely, and cost-effectively in an ever-changing digital environment.
